Examination Policies

The following guidelines should be followed by all faculty members, students and administrators in order to assure fairness and the best possible educational experience for students.

DURING EXAMINATIONS
1. On the day of writing any examination students should leave all examination rooms one hour prior to the start for invigilators to get the rooms ready.
1. Invigilators are to be present at least 30 minutes prior to the starting time of the examination.
1. Students are to present themselves for searching and identification purposes within 30 minutes prior to the start time of the examination.
1. Students must bring their Identity Cards and examination chits into the examination room for inspection before they would be allowed to sit the examination.
1. Students are not allowed to bring anything (bag, books, mobile phones, etc) into the examination room except writing instruments including pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, and calculators. Mobile phones would not be allowed to be used as calculators.
1. Students will not be allowed to sit for an examination in any instance in which they arrive 30 minutes or more after the examination has begun. Students who arrive within the 30 minutes will finish at the same time as the others who have already begun the examination and they will not be given any extra time.
1. Students cannot leave the examination room until 30 minutes after the start of the examination except in the case of emergency.
1. Students are required not to change the positions of their desks/index numbers or move them without authorisation from the invigilator.
1. Students will not be allowed to leave the examination room until they have submitted their answer booklets to the invigilator, except in the case of emergency.
1. Under no circumstance must answer booklets, used or unused, be removed from the examination room by a student.
1. Students who fail to submit their examination papers when called for by an invigilator at the end of the time allowed will have 5 marks deducted from their score on the paper.
1. Candidates must ensure that they sign the examination attendance sheet.
1. On receipt of the answer booklets, students should carefully read the instructions on the front cover and enter their index numbers and other details as required.
1. It is the responsibility of students to provide for themselves such materials as pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, and calculator for the examination. Borrowing of these materials will not be allowed.
1. There should be no verbal or any other form of communication between candidates in the hall during the period of the examination.

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE
1. Student(s) caught in breach of examination regulations will be allowed to continue writing the paper.
1. However, the invigilator shall submit a written report of the incident including exhibit(s), if any, together with that of the candidate to the Dean of School through the Examination Officer.
1. The Dean of School will appoint a committee to investigate the matter and present a report to the President together with its recommendations, not later than one month after the end-of-semester examinations.
1. The committee to investigate the alleged breach of Examination Regulations shall include a student representative.
1. An examination malpractice shall be understood to be any attempt on the part of a candidate to gain an unfair advantage in examinations. These include:
  1. Leakage of examination questions: - any knowledge or possession of examination questions before the examinations
  2. Possession of unauthorised materials related to the examinations and likely to be used during examinations.
  3. Copying from prepared notes or from a colleague’s script during examinations.
  4. Persistently looking over other candidate shoulders in order to cheat.
  5. Impersonating another candidate or allowing oneself to be impersonated.
  6. Assisting or attempting to assist, obtaining or attempting to obtain assistance from a candidate.
  7. Consulting or trying to consult during examination any book(s), note(s) or other unauthorised material(s).
  8. Persistently disturbing other candidate(s) or detracting their attention.
  9. Verbal or physical assault on an invigilator over alleged examination offence.
  10. Destroying materials suspected to help establish cases of examination malpractices,
  11. Writing after the examination has ended.
  12. Fabrication of data: - claiming to have carried out experiments, observations, interviews or any sort of research which have not in fact been obtained.
  13. Plagiarism: - copying another’s work and pretending it is one’s own or substantial use of other people’s work and the submission of it as though it was ones own.
